To serve the storage purposes, a wine cellar should be carefully constructed and strategically situated. They are generally a dark room in the house, mostly underground but it is not necessary that it be so. They could be under the staircase.
A homeowner should work in close collaboration with a home interior designer to come up with the cellar’s design. These may include the basics like the wall features and moldings to other extras like a tasting table.
Wine maturing process thrives best when the temperatures are between 50 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This calls for both a constant temperature and a cool dry atmosphere. Wine will also come good when it is kept at any stable temperature between 45 and 70 degrees. This is the reason many cellars were designed to be underground.
The wine should not be exposed to any sudden changes in temperature. The owner of the wine cellar should ensure that the temperature should be stable throughout.
It takes an expert to get the right temperature in which the wine will mature at the right speed. If the heat is too much, the wine will be spoilt.
The humidity in the cellar should rhyme with the type of wine in question. One should have in mind that the temperature conditions should be jus right to let the wine age at the right speed. The wine type matters a lot.
